In 2006 Afcan Holdings Limited was granted a mining and exploration license, shortly after Afcan Holdings began acquiring a number of properties and began small scale alluvial Diamond mining in the Bagbema area of Sierra Leone. In early 2007 Afcan Holdings Limited expanded its operation by purchasing earth moving equipment as well a brand new Explorer 5 series Dove Mining wash plant with a 100tonne per/hr material processing capacity.
Presently Afcan is aggressively acquiring additional mining plots and has entered into partnerships with a number of land owners the in mining of their lands.
Afcan is also in negotiations with the Government of Sierra Leone in acquiring dredging licenses in Kono and has ordered a dredger and wash plant with a 150tonne per/hr material processing capacity.
In February of 2007 Afcan Holdings Limited has begun negotiations with a number of foreign mining companies on a possible joint venture and expansion of its operations into other areas of the country.
AFCAN Holdings Limited has acquired 22 sites in Bagbema. In late 2007 and early 2008, sampling was conducted in three mining sites. The results encouraged the Company to embark on full scale mining in the remaining sites in the area.
Afcan has acquired more than 30 sites with options on another 20 in areas whose potential is proven.
Plans are afoot to begin full scale mining operations by late 2010.
